Alfa Laval expands service capacity in Japan

Alfa Laval has upgraded its Service Centre in Shonan, Japan, increasing its capacity to support customers in the energy, food and pharmaceutical, and marine industries. The inauguration was held on 20 May 2026 and included customers, representatives from the Samukawa local government and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce.

The modernization increases reconditioning capacity by 30 percent, which Alfa Laval said will enable shorter turnaround times and greater responsiveness to customer needs across Japan. The facility upgrade also includes optimization of the layout and process flow to improve operational efficiency and service quality.

The centre has introduced fluorescent penetrant testing technology for more accurate defect detection, simplified cleaning processes and reduced lead times. Alfa Laval also replaced a conventional gas boiler with an electric heating system, and the centre now operates on renewable electricity.

Solar panels installed at the facility last year generate onsite energy and reduce reliance on conventional energy sources. A new water treatment system has also been introduced to improve water management and create opportunities for future enhancements.

“The upgrade of the Shonan Service Centre is an important milestone in strengthening our service capabilities in Japan,” said Sara Widestadh, Head of Service and Vice President, Business Unit Gasketed Plate Heat Exchangers. “With this investment, we are able to deliver faster, customer-oriented and high-quality service. We are committed to being our customers’ trusted service partner, helping them improve energy efficiency and achieve sustainable performance.”
