LG Expands Global Availability of R32 Air-Cooled Scroll Chiller

LG Electronics is expanding global availability of its latest air-cooled Inverter Scroll Chiller, a heating, ventilation and air conditioning solution designed to support the transition to lower-GWP refrigerants and sustainable HVAC technologies.

The new model uses R32 refrigerant, which has a global warming potential approximately 70% lower than R410A. Designed as an inverter heat pump system, the chiller supplies chilled and hot water for medium-sized commercial buildings requiring year-round thermal management.

The unit is equipped with LG’s All-Inverter compressor, operating across a frequency range of 30Hz to 120Hz, to support performance and reduced energy use under partial-load conditions. LG’s HiPOR (High Pressure Oil Return) system returns oil directly to the compression chamber to reduce energy losses, enabling an IPLV of up to 5.9. Some models support an outlet water temperature range from -10°C to 60°C (14°F to 140°F).

The chiller is designed for operation in different climates. Vapor injection technology helps maintain heating capacity in extreme cold, with modulation down to 20% load. In high ambient temperatures, a refrigerant-cooled heat sink enables operation at up to 52°C (126°F). The system also includes compressor backup, intelligent control logic, sequential defrost and LG’s Black Fin anti-corrosion coating for coastal or humid regions.

Control options include a 5-inch touch HMI for small installations, with remote installation possible up to 500 meters (1,640 feet). Medium-sized projects can use LG’s ACP and AC Smart controllers for up to 10 units, while LG BECON can coordinate up to 30 chillers and manage auxiliary devices including pumps, valves and sensors. An integrated energy-saving algorithm can reduce consumption by up to 10%, and automatic recovery restores settings after power outages.

Following initial launches in North America, Europe and South Korea, LG is continuing global expansion of the Inverter Scroll Chiller through 2025. At Garden Grove Elementary School in Florida, an old 60-ton unit was replaced with three LG chillers, and the school recorded an 18% reduction in energy consumption and quieter operation.

“Our latest Inverter Scroll Chiller was designed to deliver high energy efficiency and flexible system management, enabling customers to meet real HVAC demands with confidence,” said James Lee, president of LG ES Company. “We remain committed to providing high-performance and reliable solutions that generate long-term value and contribute to a more efficient and sustainable future.”
