AREA and UNEP OzonAction to host RAC training event in Thailand

AREA and UNEP OzonAction will co-organise a side event on strengthening the refrigeration and air-conditioning servicing sector during the 48th Open-ended Working Group of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol. The event will take place on 15 July 2026 in Thailand and will focus on best practices, energy efficiency and capacity building for RAC technicians.

The programme will bring together representatives from governments, National Ozone Units, international organisations and industry to exchange experiences and discuss practical approaches to improving servicing practices.

UNEP OzonAction and AREA will present their Best Practices and Energy Efficiency Training Manual, developed for technicians, trainers and training centres. The manual covers servicing practices, energy efficiency, refrigerant emissions and the safe handling of low-GWP refrigerants, supporting implementation of the Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment.

Marco Buoni, AREA International Affairs, will demonstrate how the manual can be applied in practice. The programme will also include keynote presentations by Jim Curlin, Head of UNEP OzonAction, and Sonja Wagner, followed by a panel discussion on country experiences in RAC training and capacity building.

The event is scheduled from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at UNESCAP, MR-A. Participants will discuss training methodologies, workforce development and opportunities for international cooperation.
