IIR highlights cooperation at China Refrigeration Expo 2026

The International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) took part in China Refrigeration Expo 2026, held in Beijing, China, from 8 to 10 April. The event was co-organised by the Chinese Association of Refrigeration, the China Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Industry Association, and the Beijing International Exhibition Center Co., and the source describes it as one of the world’s most influential exhibitions for the HVAC&R sector.

The IIR was represented by Prof. Min Soo Kim, President of the IIR General Conference, and Marco Durán, Head of the IIR Policy and Global Partnerships Department. At the Opening Ceremony Forum, Prof. Min Soo Kim presented on “International refrigeration research and development with industrial applications,” with a focus on data centre cooling technologies and cold-chain applications for road and marine transport and storage.

The forum also covered new-type power systems and the energy internet in the building sector, high-temperature heat pump technology and industrial development, and agriculture aimed at supporting China’s development as an agricultural powerhouse. Technical sessions and specialised symposia continued throughout the three-day exhibition, supporting scientific, technical and industrial exchanges.

According to the source, the exhibition brought together more than 1,000 exhibitors from over 30 countries and regions. Its 2026 theme, “Empowering refrigeration and heat pumps with digital intelligence for a new chapter of carbon neutrality,” reflected discussions on energy efficiency, low-GWP refrigerants, system optimisation and digital solutions.

During the exhibition week, Marco Durán delivered congratulatory remarks on behalf of the IIR at Moon Tech’s launch ceremony for a smart low-carbon factory and the upgrading of the company’s full compressor series, held during the company’s 70th anniversary year. He also addressed a press conference following TICA’s acquisition of KLAS, where the group’s energy efficiency and carbon reduction objectives were highlighted.

The week concluded with a technical visit to Moon Tech’s headquarters in Yantai, where the IIR delegation visited compressor manufacturing facilities and met senior management to discuss opportunities for stronger cooperation.
